Invisalign® Clear Aligners

Would you like to fix your gapped or crooked teeth, but can't imagine wearing metal braces? Thompson Dental in Laguna Niguel offers Invisalign® clear aligners, a discreet, convenient alternative that fits your adult lifestyle.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign works with clear aligners custom-designed to fit over your teeth and shift them into their proper positions. With a treatment plan established by your dentist, you switch the aligners out every one to two weeks. Every time you move to the next set, you’ll see the progress, keeping you motivated and excited to complete treatment.

How Straight Teeth Improve Oral Health

Oral hygiene is more effective with properly aligned teeth. You can reach all tooth surfaces more easily with your brush and floss, reducing your risk of cavities and gum disease. A correct bite also distributes chewing forces evenly, preventing excessive wear on specific teeth and reducing strain on your jaw joints.

Invisalign Benefits

Clear aligners are so popular because they offer many advantages over traditional metal braces.
Discreet
The clear aligners blend with your natural teeth, making them nearly invisible during conversations, meetings, or photos.
Comfortable
With no sharp edges or wires, smooth plastic aligners eliminate the irritation to soft tissue in the mouth commonly caused by metal brackets and wires.
Removable
With removable aligners, there are no food restrictions, and you can enjoy a wide, varied diet without worrying about damaging brackets or wires.
Easier Oral Hygiene
Brush and floss easily without maneuvering around brackets and wires, which helps you maintain better oral health throughout your treatment.
Fewer Office Visits
Invisalign doesn't require adjustment appointments because you simply switch to your next sets of aligners at home according to your treatment plan.
New Smile Preview
Our advanced imaging technology allows us to show you a preview of how your new smile will look before you commit to treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign clear aligners can correct most orthodontic issues that traditionally required metal braces. Here's how specific alignment problems affect your oral health and appearance—and how Invisalign addresses them:

  • Crowded Teeth —When teeth overlap due to insufficient jaw space, brushing and flossing become difficult, creating areas where plaque accumulates. This increases your risk for cavities and gum disease. Invisalign gradually creates space, moving teeth into proper alignment where they're easier to clean and maintain.
  • Gapped Teeth — Spaces between teeth can trap food particles and leave gum tissue exposed and prone to inflammation. Large gaps also affect appearance and may impact speech. Invisalign closes these spaces systematically, protecting gum tissue and creating a more uniform smile.
  • Overbite — When upper teeth overlap lower teeth excessively, the condition can cause premature wear on lower teeth, jaw pain, and difficulty biting certain foods. Invisalign repositions teeth to create proper vertical overlap, reducing strain on your jaw joints and protecting enamel from excessive wear.
  • Underbite — Lower teeth that protrude past upper teeth create an unbalanced bite that stresses jaw joints and makes chewing inefficient. This misalignment can also affect facial appearance. Invisalign moves lower teeth back or upper teeth forward to establish proper bite alignment.
  • Crossbite — When upper teeth sit inside lower teeth on one or both sides, uneven wear patterns develop, and jaw growth can be affected. Invisalign corrects tooth position to establish a proper upper-to-lower tooth relationship, preventing long-term damage.

What to Expect with Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign planning and treatment typically follow these steps:

  1. Comprehensive examination to evaluate your teeth, bite, and jaw alignment.
  2. Digital scanning creates a precise 3-D image of your teeth so we can plan your treatment and preview your new smile.
  3. You'll receive several sets at each visit and wear each for one to two weeks before switching to the next.
  4. Wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours daily, but remove them when you eat, drink anything other than water, or brush your teeth.
  5. Return to Thompson Dental every six to eight weeks so we can check your progress and provide your next sets of aligners.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

Invisalign treatment times vary. Some patients with minor alignment issues finish in as little as six months. Most cases take between 12 and 18 months to achieve the desired results. We will give you a more specific timeline after evaluating your teeth.

Digital Impressions

Gone are the days of gagging on goopy impression material. We use a compact digital scanner that captures precise 3-D images of your teeth in minutes with no mess and no discomfort while waiting for the putty to set. Digital impressions are more accurate than traditional molds, which means better-fitting crowns, bridges, and aligners. We can transmit the images instantly to our dental lab or use them with our CEREC® system for same-day restorations.

Testimonial

Dr. Thompson and His Staff are Great.

Dr. Thompson and his staff are great. Everything from customer service and scheduling to the actual dental care has been first rate. Everyone is very nice, and I feel like they try hard to deliver a quality service. I am near the end of an orthodontic treatment and I am very happy with the results.
