CEREC® Crowns and Bridges

At Thompson Dental, we understand the limitations and discomfort associated with broken or missing teeth and offer solutions for both. With quality dental crowns and bridges, including same-day CEREC® crowns, we eliminate the need for temporary restorations and multiple appointments.

What Are Dental Crowns?

A crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged tooth completely, restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. Crowns protect weakened teeth from further damage and allow you to bite and chew comfortably again.

Dr. Sean and Dr. Zachary may recommend a crown if you have:

  • A tooth weakened by a large cavity or filling
  • A cracked or fractured tooth that needs reinforcement
  • A worn-down tooth from grinding
  • A root-canaled tooth
  • A tooth with aesthetic issues like severe discoloration
  • A dental implant that needs a replacement tooth

After a thorough exam, we'll determine if a crown is the right solution for your situation. Our dentists evaluate the extent of damage, health of surrounding teeth and gums, and overall oral health before recommending treatment.

Why Patients Choose CEREC Same-Day Crowns

Our CEREC technology transforms the crown experience and offers several advantages our patients appreciate:
Same-Day Results
We design, mill, and place CEREC crowns in a single appointment. You'll leave with your final restoration the same day, with no temporary crown, second visit, or waiting weeks for a dental lab to complete the process.
Advanced Technology
Digital impressions and computer-aided design ensure your crown fits accurately and looks natural. CEREC technology means better comfort, improved function, and results that blend seamlessly with your existing teeth.
Long-Lasting Solution
CEREC crowns are crafted from high-quality ceramic that's strong, stain-resistant, and biocompatible. With proper care, your crown can last 10 to 15 years or longer, giving you a reliable restoration that stands up to daily use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental crowns typically last 10 to 15 years with proper care. Their lifespan depends on several factors, including oral hygiene habits, whether you grind your teeth, the crown's location in your mouth, and your bite.

Proper Care for Dental Crowns

To get the most out of your crown:

  • Brush twice daily and floss daily — Good oral hygiene prevents decay around the crown's margins, where it meets your natural tooth.
  • Attend regular dental checkups — Professional cleanings and exams catch potential problems early, before they compromise your crown.
  • Avoid chewing hard objects — Don't chew ice, hard candy, or use your teeth to open packages, as excessive force can crack or dislodge your crown.
  • Wear a nightguard if you grind your teeth — Grinding puts tremendous pressure on crowns and can cause premature wear or damage.
  • Don't use your front teeth as tools — Avoid biting fingernails or tearing open bags, especially if you have crowns on front teeth.
  • Address dental problems promptly — If you notice sensitivity, a loose crown, or changes in your bite, contact Thompson Dental to prevent further damage.

If you have questions about caring for your crown or need to schedule a checkup, contact Thompson Dental today. We serve patients throughout Dana Point, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills, Laguna Woods, Mission Viejo, and the surrounding South Orange County communities.

Steps for Getting a CEREC Same-Day Crown

You can expect the following steps when getting a same-day crown at our Laguna Niguel dental office:

  1. Consultation and Examination — We evaluate your tooth, take x-rays, and discuss your treatment options.
  2. Tooth Preparation — We remove decay and shape the tooth so the crown will fit perfectly.
  3. Digital Impressions — Our digital scanner captures precise 3-D images of your tooth with no mess.
  4. Crown Design — We use CAD (computer-aided design) software to customize your crown based on your tooth's exact specifications.
  5. In-Office Milling— Our CEREC machine mills your crown from a solid block of dental ceramic.
  6. Final Crown Placement — We check the crown's fit and color, make any necessary adjustments, and securely bond it to your tooth.

How Does a Dental Bridge Work?

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The bridge consists of artificial teeth (pontics) fused between two crowns that fit over your natural teeth, creating a long-lasting, fixed restoration.

Getting a Fixed Dental Bridge

Getting a traditional bridge typically requires two appointments. During your first visit, we prepare the anchor teeth on either side of the gap and take impressions. You'll wear a temporary bridge while a dental lab fabricates your custom restoration.

At your second appointment, we remove the bridge and cement your permanent bridge into place. The process takes two to three weeks from start to finish.

Testimonial

Thompson Dental is an Exceptional Dentist Office.

Thompson Dental is an exceptional dentist office. Dr. Sean and his son, Dr. Zachary are so calm, friendly and knowledgeable. They put you at ease immediately. You know that you are in good hands. Sandy, the office manager, is so kind and helpful and works with you to make your appointment go smoothly. All of the office staff greets you with a smile and asks how you are doing. All of the dental work, a bridge, an implant and new crowns across the front of my mouth have given me the confidence to smile and not cover my mouth. They simply are life changing dentists.
